In December 2019, Ocean Acres Animal Sanctuary took over an existing animal charity who could no longer operate. They started with the responsibility of 45 dogs and 69 cats, and now they’ve grown to over 200. Their mission is to protect and advocate stray, abandoned and abused dogs and cats in Barbados: through rescue, rehabilitation, sheltering, adoption and spay/neuter, to educate the community in the compassionate care, welfare and the benefits of companion animals.
Some of the projects OA needs assistance with are:
- Funds to build more shelters, add CCTV capabilities and increase the reach of their education program
- Pack a ‘charity luggage’ with British Airways using the list of items OA urgently need
- Volunteer as a travel buddy, flying dogs back with you from Barbados to Canada. We organize everything, it costs you nothing, you only need to turn-up at the airport.
- Walk a shelter dog along the stunning East Coast or attend one of the Paws for Breath yoga sessions where all donations go 100% to the shelter
