Community Outreach

Stay Well. Do Well.
with Blue Sky Luxury

Blue Sky Luxury is bringing community outreach for the first time to you – our guests. We know that giving back is powerful and more needed now than ever, so we decided to combine our local knowledge and relationships with your wish to make an impact. With over 8,000 guests visiting our holiday homes every year – inviting you to dive deeper into our small island nation just makes sense. Whatever is close to your heart, we can match you with a cause and show you the options available to help make a difference – whether it’s walking a shelter dog on our stunning East Coast, or donating funds towards a child’s future education. For your next holiday, ask us how you can make it an unforgettable, enriching and fulfilling one.

Our Three Outreach Pillars

#
Community

The pillar with the widest ranging impact - it focuses on assisting our local communities with two main objectives in mind: education and welfare.

#
Sustainability

While we've set goals to reduce our footprint and play our part in the evolving climate crisis, this pillar looks even further by sourcing solutions to building stronger ecosystems and communities.

#
Animal Welfare

While educating the next generation on the importance of caring for animals is critical for future change, there's also many other ways to get involved to support current urgent needs.

Making A Difference Spotlight
Ocean Acres

In December 2019, Ocean Acres Animal Sanctuary took over an existing animal charity who could no longer operate. They started with the responsibility of 45 dogs and 69 cats, and now they’ve grown to over 200. Their mission is to protect and advocate stray, abandoned and abused dogs and cats in Barbados: through rescue, rehabilitation, sheltering, adoption and spay/neuter, to educate the community in the compassionate care, welfare and the benefits of companion animals.

Some of the projects OA needs assistance with are:

  • Funds to build more shelters, add CCTV capabilities and increase the reach of their education program
  • Pack a ‘charity luggage’ with British Airways using the list of items OA urgently need
  • Volunteer as a travel buddy, flying dogs back with you from Barbados to Canada. We organize everything, it costs you nothing, you only need to turn-up at the airport.
  • Walk a shelter dog along the stunning East Coast or attend one of the Paws for Breath yoga sessions where all donations go 100% to the shelter

Making A Difference Spotlight
WIIRED

The Walkers Institute for Regenerative Research and Design (WIRRED) was born out of the restoration of Walkers Sand Quarry. Through ongoing research, education, design, and community partnerships WIRRED creates regenerative spaces in which individuals can connect/reconnect to the environment, while building more resilient economies, ecosystems and communities.

Some of their projects WIIRED are currently undertaking are :

  • eARTh: reconnecting to nature through art and design
  • Walkers Reserve: developing regenerative post-extraction models that benefit local communities and the environment by restoring such areas back to ecological health
  • One Tree For Every Bajan: an opportunity to help improve our environment, build habitat, increase biodiversity, sequester carbon and build climate resilience

Making A Difference Spotlight
YWCA Breakfast Club

The Barbados Cancer Society is an organization close to our hearts. With nation-wide coverage dedicated to the prevention and alleviation of pain and suffering by public education, the promotion of early detection, and prompt treatment, the society has been making a massive impact in society since 1990. Every year there is also the incredibly well attended Walk For The Cure which brings out scores of attendees.

Programs they currently run are:

  • Education through schools, businesses and industries, along with health fairs and a gala public lecture
  • Early detection clinics
  • Welfare service, home visits, transportation, patient comfort and a children’s trust for those who have lost a parent
