Barbados Open Invitational Water Polo Tournament Festival

Venue: Aquatic Centre, Garfield Sobers Sports Complex, Wildey, St. Michael
The Barbados Open Invitational Water Polo Tournament (BOIWT) Festival is organised by the Barbados Water Polo Club.
Teams from the U.S.A and Italy as well as two local Bajan teams will compete in the 4th annual Festival.

Motorsport
Motor Sport- Autocross No 3
Date: 11th August 2018
Admission: Not Available
Venue: Vaucluse Raceway, Rock Hall, St Thomas
This event is promoted by the Barbados Rally Club.
An autocross is a timed event generally held on a paved, flat surface, usually consisting of straight sections and connecting turns or corners, resembling a miniaturized road course.
The course layout emphasizes car handling, driver skill, and maneuverability rather than performance.
Horse Racing
Barbados Turf Club Horse Racing Season 2 – Day 7 – Massy United Derby Race Day
Date: 1st, 11th, 25th August
Admission: Entrance fee to the various stands ranges from Bds $10.00 to $100.00 for the day. Special (higher) prices apply to Gold Cup Day in early March. Admission is free to the grounds.
Venue: Garrison Savannah, St. Michael
Thoroughbred Horse Racing in Barbados has taken place at the Garrison Savannah for over 150 years. The Barbados Turf Club organizes three seasons of racing per year. These meetings run from January to April; May to August and from October to December, normally every other Saturday. There are usually nine races per day, starting around 1:00 pm and finishing around 5:45 pm.

This is a huge four-day street fair with vendors of all kinds selling their wares. The latest calypso music fills the air while patrons dance and fill their stomachs.
On Kadooment Day, Aug 06, it’s where the bands end their jump.
It will by exciting, noisy, and colourful as all the costumed players fill the streets.

Crop Over Festival- Grand Kadooment
Date: 6th August
Start time: 8:30 AM

Venue: The National Stadium to Spring Garden Highway
This carnival parade features large bands with members dressed in elaborate costumes to depict various themes.
Designers compete for the coveted Designer of the Year prize while the revelers are intent on having a good time!
The revelers make their way from the National Stadium to Spring Garden accompanied by the pulsating rhythm of calypso music. People line the route to watch and photograph the bands go by, joining in the merriment where they can. When the revelers reach Spring Garden, the party continues with more fantastic music, lots of food and drink and, for some, a quick swim at the nearby beach. A grand end to a grand festival.
The bands parade across in front of the stands at the National Stadium before proceeding to Spring Garden.
Bands are judged in the following categories:
Portrayal: 40 points
Depiction of a theme
Craftsmanship: 20 points
Skill in costume making
Presentation: 10 points
Impact made on the stage
Originality: 15 points
Inventiveness in use of materials and portrayal of the concept

The Central Bank of Barbados Crop Over Visual Arts Festival
Date: Starts July 8th and Ends August 4th

The Central Bank of Barbados Crop Over Visual Arts Festival will be exhibiting the works of art reflecting the mirror image of some of our island’s best visual artists. The exhibition will feature three (3) core components comprising of works in two dimension, works in three-dimension and craft. This exhibition will seek to bring new marketability, exposure, presentation, sales and educational opportunities as they relate to the various disciplines contained within the visual and aesthetic culture of Barbados.
The exhibitions will take place at:
– The Courtney Blackman Grande Salle, Central Bank of Barbados, which will feature two-dimensional works; and
– The Queen’s Park Gallery, which will be showcasing three-dimensional works & craft.
Some of these works will be up for sale.

Tour George Washington House and the Garrison Tunnels. You can take this tour on any week day, not just on Mondays and Wednesdays.
See the very home where a 19-year-old George Washington laid his head for 6 weeks in 1751. Also see, walk and learn all about the intriguing and mysterious Garrison Tunnels. George Washington never went abroad, except to Barbados in 1751. It was a turning point for him, and in this beautifully restored house where he stayed, you learn how. Its upstairs museum uses artifacts and interactive displays to showcase 18th and 19th century Barbados, and gives eloquent witness to the experience of slavery. A short distance away is the Military Cemetery, a place of haunting beauty that few people ever see.
