Speightstown has several new treats in store for winter!
Barbados is known for its luxurious west coast, exciting south and thrill-seeking east, but the north of the island is possibly the most endearing experience to be had. And, this winter, all eyes will be on the beacon of the north, Speightstown, as many new and exciting fixtures are unveiled!
With a history of British occupation, tobacco and cotton centuries behind, modern-day Speightstown has established itself as a rural civic centre with much to offer. One of its major streets, Queen’s Street, is more than just an ode to its British past. This passage is characterized by sidewalk vendors plying their trade in fresh produce, and is home to schools, supermarkets, banks and all that’s necessary for the northerners to maintain a simple life. There is also the Arlington House museum, where patrons may explore the towns past, as well as the Gallery of Caribbean Art nestled within its main commercial area. But the most popular hangouts are likely Fisherman’s Pub – an authentic Barbadian food experience – and the relaxing Speightstown Esplanade and jetty.

However, the newest addition to the magic of Speightstown is Hugo’s. Sitting seaside on the lovely stretch of Speightstown’s coast, the sister – or brother – restaurant to the ever-popular PRIMO Bar & Bistro and Cin Cin by the Sea, will open its doors for the first time this winter season. What promises to be and experience that is ‘cut from a different cloth’, the restaurant is billed to carry the unmistakable flair that has become a signature of the family of restaurants. And, anxious prospective diners have concluded that it just from its outward presentation it will definitely ‘be something else.’ While everyone waits with bated breath for the eatery to open its doors, pre-opening bookings are open for those looking to have the first indulgence in the Hugo’s experience.

In addition to Hugo’s, there is also a surprise on the outskirts of Speightstown. Just a ways north of the bustling city centre, a luxurious vibe permeates and synchronizes with the rural heartbeat – welcome to Nikki Beach. Against all superstition, and nestled cozily along the north-western tip of the island is the world’s thirteenth Nikki Beach Club. Known for its offering of the crème de la crème in international food, music, art, fashion, entertainment and film, Nikki Beach Club officially named Barbados as destination lucky number thirteen in mid-March, and also officially opens its doors in time for the winter crowd. With oceanfront seating for over 200 guests, VIP cabanas, sunbeds, a signature octagon wet bar and catamaran-like lounges that project over the shimmering waters are just a few of the several incarnations of the VIP treatment known as Nikki Beach.
