Christmas Morning in Queen’s Park
On Christmas morning, on the outskirts of the heart of Bridgetown, a breath of lively colours and a convivial atmosphere fill Queen’s Park. Barbadians from all walks of life show up dressed in their Sunday – well, Christmas best – to the annual Christmas in the park mingle. Although the emphasis on this morning is donning your best threads, the main attraction is really the festive performances by the 100-plus year-old Royal Police Band, which serenades the audience and sets a soothing tone for the rest of the day.
Christmas at the Prime Minister’s residence
Each Christmas, the Prime Minister’s residence at Ilaro Court opens its gardens to the general public during Christmas events hosted at the property. One of the most popular staples is Carols by Candlelight, an evening of caroling and performances by local artistes, children’s groups and other acts on grounds of this stately home. Patrons of the event are usually seated on blankets spread on the lawn or perched on portable chairs, and the atmosphere is warming and welcoming, wishing all a wonderful night. And, in the true spirit of giving, all girls and boys under the age of 12 come bearing gifts for children’s charities, while further proceeds are donated to charitable causes all across the island, which makes it all even more gratifying!

There is no way to talk about Christmas without mentioning shopping! With extended opening hours and unlimited duty-free shopping, the main shopping districts of the capital Bridgetown are always a hive of activity. The hive then spreads to other commercial districts such as the west coast’s Limegrove Lifestyle Centre, confirming that Christmas truly is in the air!
