Noted as one of the most original Caribbean festivals, Dominica’s Carnival, usually celebrated in the capital of Roseau and other villages around the island, includes a variety of entertaining and interactive events: lively music, dancing in the streets (jump-up), calypso competitions, the annual crowning of the Queen Monarch and amazing costumes. It involves two days of “jump-up” in a costume band to soca and bouyan tunes.  The pre-Lenten festivities tend to start about one month before Carnival Monday and Tuesday.

For just the spot to rest those happy feet from all of that Carnival madness, you must check out Dominica’s private complex at Secret Bay.  It’s home to four exquisite holiday destinations: Zing-Zing Villa and Zabuco Honeymoon Villa

as well as twin Bungalows, Mapou and Ti-Fèy – a mere 10-minute drive away from Portsmouth and an hour’s drive from Roseau –  perfect locales for that Dominican luxury holiday escape.
