Getting Around

Concierge Can - Car Rentals

There is so much to see in Dominica so why not explore the beauty of this island at your own pace. Some visitors are intimidated by the roads being quite narrow and steep (did we mention the potholes!) but if you are happy to take your time and enjoy an adventure, discovering Dominica in charge of the steering wheel is an excellent way to get to really know the island.

Let us arrange to have a vehicle delivered to you at your holiday home accommodation. We work with the most dependable and professional car rental companies on the Island and we guarantee a wide range of vehicles at the best possible prices.

Dominicans drive right-hand drive vehicles on the left side of the road -most of the time anyway!

If you are visiting from North America - don't let that scare you's easier than you may think! Generally the roads are not crowded, particularly outside of the capital, Roseau, but as the island is quite mountainous the gradients are often steep and the roads narrow -a jeep, SUV or 4X4 is recommended for both comfort and practicality.

For a small fee of US$20.00 a local driver's permit is issued with every car rental and it is valid for a period of 60 days. GPS units as well as child safety seats are also available for rent with your vehicle. Eligible drivers need to be 21 years of age (25 for some rental companies on island) with at least 5 years of driving experience. Please remember to bring your valid driver's license with you when you arrive. If you are over 80 years of age you must show the rental agent a copy of a letter from your physician stating that you are physically healthy enough to drive.

Well Being

Concierge Can - Well Being

Leave the stress of work behind and pamper yourself properly during your holiday in Dominica. Start off your vacation with a massage at sunset in the privacy of your villa, or perhaps wash away the city with a deep cleansing facial. We offer a wide range of well-being and spa services - all of which can be brought to your doorstep. If you would like a day out we can also make a booking for you at any one of the island's top spas.

Just because you’re on holiday doesn’t mean that you have to suspend your exercise routine (unless of course you want to!). Concierge Can also help you to continue your fitness program with a private personal trainer, yoga or pilates instructor coming right to your villa or recommend several gyms where you can obtain short-term or daily membership privileges.

Island Activities

Dominica is not the typical Caribbean island of white sand beaches and aquamarine sea. It's an island abundant with natural wonders- rugged terrain and offering unexpectedly breathtaking vista, 365 pristine rivers, a boiling lake, spectacular waterfalls and an incredible underwater world.

Happy Hiking!

Whether you want to hike the Waitukubuli trail or take a gentler stroll to experience the beauty of Emerald Pool, this is the spot to fill your lungs with fresh air and breathe.

The Trail opens up and showcases the best of Dominica – culture/heritage, local lifestyles and the island’s rugged terrain and wild nature – rivers, waterfalls, mountains, exotic gorges and rainforests.

The Waitukubuli National Trail is completely hike-able with the necessary services and facilities. Hikers are reminded to exercise safety and caution when hiking the trail and to ensure they register beforehand. All visitors and non-residents are also required to purchase a Trail Pass to access/hike the Waitukubuli National Trail. Passes are available within close proximity to the Ports of Entry, the Forestry and Wildlife Division, the Waitukubuli Trail Headquarters in Pont Casse and various others vendors across the island in proximity to the trail segments.

The Waitukubuli National Trail (WNT) is 184 km (115 miles) long and is made up of fourteen (14) segments. It runs from the southern village of Scott’s Head to the Cabrits National Park in the North, and comprises a series of trail networks.

Emerald Pool

This wonderful waterfall grotto is located in the UNESCO World Heritage Site of Morne Trois Piton National Park. An easy 30-minute hike takes you through magnificent overhanging trees and lush vegetation to the shimmering pool, which appears green in the tree-filtered sunlight. If you go for a dip, you can swim right up to the waterfall!

On your way back there are two view points where you can see the Atlantic Coast and Morne Laurent to your left, rising to an elevation of 2,248 ft. Breathtaking!

The Boiling Lake

Dominica's Boiling Lake is a unique natural attraction, the second largest of its kind in the world after that of Rotorua in New Zealand's North Island. Situated within Dominica's UNESCO World Heritage Site -The Morne Trois Pitons National Park, it is at an altitude of 2,500 feet and the only way to reach it is on foot. The trail from the village of Laudat covers a distance of approximately 7 miles and should only be attempted in the company of a qualified hiking guide. This wonderfully scenic trail usually takes about 3 hours to complete each way... allow 7 or so hours so you have time to enjoy the views and the hot springs en route... a welcome ease for aching muscles! The trail climbs and descends through forested highlands, via Titou Gorge, Breakfast River, Panorama Viewpoint and the Valley of Desolation, where steam and boiling water surface through numerous vents and from where the Boiling Lake can be seen steaming in the distance.

A reasonable level of fitness will help you enjoy this challenging hike - an extra long soak in the hot springs at the end of the hike to avoid sore muscles the next day is recommended!

Wonderful Waterfalls

Trafalgar Falls, Sari Sari Falls, Middleham Falls, Victoria Falls and many more -with 365 rivers, Dominica has a wealth of waterfalls to see. We love Victoria Falls in the South east of the island! Stop at the Restaurant (really!) for a cold Kubuli (local beer) at the end of your hike! As you'll have to cross the river 4 or 5 times to get to the falls it's wise to take an experienced guide; if the river is too high then you may have to try another day.

Dive Dominica

Dominica is rightly regarded as one of the world's best spots for scuba diving.

With volcanic vents and plunging sea walls, colorful reefs and soft corals, sea turtles and sperm whales -the underwater world of Dominica will impress even the most experienced diver with its diversity and beauty.

Discover The Beauty Beneath

Tropical Marine Life

Dive a wide variety of reefs and you’ll enter a world filled full of magic and adventure. Encounter seahorses, frogfish, flying gurnards and other species rarely found in other Caribbean diving destinations.  Huge stands of coral and sponges are home to golden crinoids with feathery, radiating arms. Batfish, electric rays, Caribbean reef squid, sea snakes and sea urchins add to Dominica’s list of rare undersea inhabitants.

Pristine Marine Habitat

The underwater topography of Dominica mirrors the beautiful landscape above, with canyons and cliffs plunging to depths equal to the soaring mountain peaks above. Massive underwater boulder fields and volcanic craters accompany steep walls and pinnacles, setting the stage for some of the best diving in the Caribbean, and indeed the most breathtaking diving to be found anywhere.

Marine Reserves

Soufriere Scott’s Head Marine Reserve, located in the southwest, is the oldest reserve on the island and offers the most popular volcanic underwater features. With virtually no current and unspoilt coral walls, The Cabrits National Park Marine Section in the north is renowned for a large variety of rare fish. The earmarked Salisbury Marine Reserve in the central west area consists of a dozen sites with some of the healthiest and best reef diving in the Caribbean.

Champagne Reef

Underwater volcanoes are the source of Dominica’s dramatic underwater landscape: craters, chasms and sheer walls plunging thousands of feet, and soaring pinnacles formed by lava flow. Visit the “Champagne” dive site and swim through warm bubbling waters created by geothermal vents. You can feel the water temperature rise. The sea floor itself can be warm to the touch!

Whale Watching

Anchorage Whale Watch & Dive Center are the pioneers of Dominica's Dive & Whale Watching Industry.

The Anchorage Whale Watch & Dive Center offers a full service ‘5 star’ PADI Dive facility. Their fleet consists of 4 Dive and Whale Watching vessels, accommodating between 14 and 60 Divers, Snorkelers or Whale Watchers.

Along with over 20 years experience of taking clients Whale Watching, Dominica’s on-going research has garnered a reputation to have Dominica named ‘the Whale Watching Capital of the Caribbean’ and has become a preferred destination for the sighting of the deep diving sperm Whales. The protected lee of the island is ideal for their mating and calving activities. In addition to the Sperm Whales, regular sightings of Pilot Whales and mixed pods of Spotted and Spinner Dolphins can be expected. Look out for the elusive little Pygmy Sperm, False Killer Whales, Atlantic Bottlenose and many other species.

Hot Spring Heaven

With it's volcanic terrain it's no surprise that Dominica is a heaven for Hot Spring lovers! A personal favourite is Ti Kwen Glo Cho (which means "Little Corner of Hot Water" in Creole. It's in the village of Wotten Waven (the popular Screws Spa is also in this village) and a magical experience at any time of the day. You walk down a steepish trail (there are steps) and choose between private small baths -literally, old tubs! Or the larger communal pool with the water piped in along large bamboo poles. Lie back, let your joints loosen and your body relax. Enjoy the wonderful rainforest that surrounds you and be sure to stop off at the bar at the top of the steps on the way back up. One of June's famous bush rums is not an experience to be missed!
